Hay Hippoërs!
From 10 to 13 October, one of the country’s largest outdoor sporting event takes place again: Military Boekelo! In case you’ve never heard of it, Military Boekelo is an eventing competition on very high level, in which only the best eventing riders can participate (Olympic medalists and international champions) in a spectacular 6 kilometers long cross country course. It takes place in Boekelo, which is only about 8 kilometers from Enschede.
It is truly an event that you don’t want to miss! Fortunately, you have the opportunity to go there together with other Hippoërs! Every year, Hippo volunteers at the Military on Saturday (October 12th in this case) to manage so-called ‘stopping points’. At these stopping points, you sit together with a few other Hippoërs with a timer to track at what time a rider passes by in the cross country course. Every now and then, a situation occurs (due to for instance a fallen rider or a damaged jump) in which a rider needs to be stopped during the course. If this happens, our job is to make sure that the rider actually stops at the stopping point.
It’s a great opportunity to experience the Military and see the riders and horses from upclose. It will take the entire day (you will be informed about the exact times later, but 8:30-ish to 18-ish), in which a lunch packet and dinner is included. Your access pass for the Saturday will also give you access on the other days (e.g., the jumping on Sunday).
